What is Matrix?
Matrix is an open, decentralised, end-to-end encrypted messaging protocol — think of it like email, but for real-time chat.
Before you start
This server is invite-only. You'll need an invite token before you can register — without one, sign-up will fail.
Request an invite token by emailing matrix@darkon.co.uk and I'll send one over.
Create your account
- Open auth.darkon.co.uk/register in your browser.
- Choose a username and password, then enter your email address.
- Enter your invite token when prompted.
- Check your email for a verification code, enter it, and your account is ready. Log out of the sign-up page, you can now move to the next step.
Download Element X
- Download Element X:
- Open Element X and tap 'Sign in manually', then tap 'Change account provider' and select 'Other'. Enter
matrix.darkon.co.uk— you should see 'You're about to sign in to matrix.darkon.co.uk'. Tap Continue. - You'll be redirected to a login page in your browser — sign in with the username and password you just created.
Your Matrix ID will be @username:darkon.co.uk — share this with anyone who wants to reach you.
Federation: you're not limited to this server. You can message anyone on any Matrix server using their full ID, e.g. @someone:matrix.org.
